The Darby Translation (DBY) New International Version (NIV)
To the angel of the assembly in Ephesus write: These things says he that holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lamps: 1 "To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands:
I know thy works and [thy] labour, and thine endurance, and that thou canst not bear evil [men]; and thou hast tried them who say that themselves [are] apostles and are not, and hast found them liars; 2 I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked men, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false.
and endurest, and hast borne for my name's sake, and hast not wearied: 3 You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary.
but I have against thee, that thou hast left thy first love. 4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love.
Remember therefore whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works: but if not, I am coming to thee, and I will remove thy lamp out of its place, except thou shalt repent. 5 Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.
But this thou hast, that thou hatest the works of the Nicolaitanes, which *I* also hate. 6 But you have this in your favor: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. To him that overcomes, I will give to him to eat of the tree of life which is in the paradise of God. 7 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.
And to the angel of the assembly in Smyrna write: These things says the first and the last, who became dead, and lived: 8 "To the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These are the words of him who is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again.
I know thy tribulation and thy poverty; but thou art rich; and the railing of those who say that they themselves are Jews, and are not, but a synagogue of Satan. 9 I know your afflictions and your poverty--yet you are rich! I know the slander of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.
Fear nothing [of] what thou art about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give to thee the crown of life. 10 Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.
He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. He that overcomes shall in no wise be injured of the second death. 11 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death.
And to the angel of the assembly in Pergamos write: These things says he that has the sharp two-edged sword: 12 "To the angel of the church in Pergamum write: These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword.
I know where thou dwellest, where the throne of Satan [is]; and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in the days in which Antipas my faithful witness [was], who was slain among you, where Satan dwells. 13 I know where you live--where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city--where Satan lives.
But I have a few things against thee: that thou hast there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a snare before the sons of Israel, to eat [of] idol sacrifices and commit fornication. 14 Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: You have people there who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin by eating food sacrificed to idols and by committing sexual immorality.
So thou also hast those who hold the doctrine of Nicolaitanes in like manner. 15 Likewise you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans.
Repent therefore: but if not, I come to thee quickly, and I will make war with them with the sword of my mouth. 16 Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. To him that overcomes, to him will I give of the hidden manna; and I will give to him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written, which no one knows but he that receives [it]. 17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it.
And to the angel of the assembly in Thyatira write: These things says the Son of God, he that has his eyes as a flame of fire, and his feet [are] like fine brass: 18 "To the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze.
I know thy works, and love, and faith, and service, and thine endurance, and thy last works [to be] more than the first. 19 I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first.
But I have against thee that thou permittest the woman Jezebel, she who calls herself prophetess, and she teaches and leads astray my servants to commit fornication and eat of idol sacrifices. 20 Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.
And I gave her time that she should repent, and she will not repent of her fornication. 21 I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling.
Behold, I cast her into a bed, and those that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of her works, 22 So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways.
and her children will I kill with death; and all the assemblies shall know that *I* am he that searches [the] reins and [the] hearts; and I will give to you each according to your works. 23 I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.
But to you I say, the rest who [are] in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I do not cast upon you any other burden; 24 Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan's so-called deep secrets (I will not impose any other burden on you):
but what ye have hold fast till I shall come. 25 Only hold on to what you have until I come.
And he that overcomes, and he that keeps unto the end my works, to him will I give authority over the nations, 26 To him who overcomes and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations--
and he shall shepherd them with an iron rod; as vessels of pottery are they broken in pieces, as I also have received from my Father; 27 'He will rule them with an iron scepter; he will dash them to pieces like pottery -- just as I have received authority from my Father.
and I will give to him the morning star. 28 I will also give him the morning star.
He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. 29 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
