| 1 And I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand. | 1 Then I looked up--and there before me was a man with a measuring line in his hand! |
| 2 And I said, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof. | 2 I asked, "Where are you going?" He answered me, "To measure Jerusalem, to find out how wide and how long it is." |
| 3 And behold, the angel that talked with me went forth; and another angel went forth to meet him, | 3 Then the angel who was speaking to me left, and another angel came to meet him |
| 4 and said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein; | 4 and said to him: "Run, tell that young man, 'Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of men and livestock in it. |
| 5 and I, saith Jehovah, I will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her. | 5 And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,' declares the LORD, 'and I will be its glory within.' |
| 6 Ho, ho! flee from the land of the north, saith Jehovah; for I have scattered you abroad as the four winds of the heavens, saith Jehovah. | 6 "Come! Come! Flee from the land of the north," declares the LORD, "for I have scattered you to the four winds of heaven," declares the LORD. |
| 7 Ho! escape, Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon. | 7 "Come, O Zion! Escape, you who live in the Daughter of Babylon!" |
| 8 For thus saith Jehovah of hosts: After the glory, hath he sent me unto the nations that made you a spoil; for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye. | 8 For this is what the LORD Almighty says: "After he has honored me and has sent me against the nations that have plundered you--for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye-- |
| 9 For behold, I will shake my hand upon them, and they shall become a spoil to those that served them: and ye shall know that Jehovah of hosts hath sent me. | 9 I will surely raise my hand against them so that their slaves will plunder them. Then you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me. |
| 10 Sing aloud and rejoice, daughter of Zion; for behold, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith Jehovah. | 10 "Shout and be glad, O Daughter of Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you," declares the LORD. |
| 11 And many nations shall join themselves to Jehovah in that day, and shall be unto me for a people; and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that Jehovah of hosts hath sent me unto thee. | 11 "Many nations will be joined with the LORD in that day and will become my people. I will live among you and you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me to you. |
| 12 And Jehovah shall inherit Judah [as] his portion in the holy land, and shall yet choose Jerusalem. | 12 The LORD will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land and will again choose Jerusalem. |
| 13 Let all flesh be silent before Jehovah; for he is risen up out of his holy habitation. | 13 Be still before the LORD, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling." |
