Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah to them. 5 Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Christ there.
The crowds with one accord listened eagerly to what was said by Philip, hearing and seeing the signs that he did, 6 When the crowds heard Philip and saw the miraculous signs he did, they all paid close attention to what he said.
for unclean spirits, crying with loud shrieks, came out of many who were possessed; and many others who were paralyzed or lame were cured. 7 With shrieks, evil spirits came out of many, and many paralytics and cripples were healed.
So there was great joy in that city. 8 So there was great joy in that city.
Now a certain man named Simon had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, saying that he was someone great. 9 Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great,
All of them, from the least to the greatest, listened to him eagerly, saying, "This man is the power of God that is called Great." 10 and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, "This man is the divine power known as the Great Power."
And they listened eagerly to him because for a long time he had amazed them with his magic. 11 They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his magic.
But when they believed Philip, who was proclaiming the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 12 But when they believed Philip as he preached the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
Even Simon himself believed. After being baptized, he stayed constantly with Philip and was amazed when he saw the signs and great miracles that took place. 13 Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw.
Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. 14 When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them.
The two went down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit 15 When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit,
(for as yet the Spirit had not come upon any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus). 16 because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
Then Peter and John laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. 17 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money, 18 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money
saying, "Give me also this power so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit." 19 and said, "Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit."
But Peter said to him, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain God's gift with money! 20 Peter answered: "May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!
You have no part or share in this, for your heart is not right before God. 21 You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God.
Repent therefore of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you. 22 Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive you for having such a thought in your heart.
For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and the chains of wickedness." 23 For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin."
Simon answered, "Pray for me to the Lord, that nothing of what you have said may happen to me." 24 Then Simon answered, "Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me."
Now after Peter and John had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, proclaiming the good news to many villages of the Samaritans. 25 When they had testified and proclaimed the word of the Lord, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many Samaritan villages.
