New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
I want you to know how much I have agonized for you and for the church at Laodicea, and for many other friends who have never known me personally. 1 I want you to know how much I am struggling for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me personally.
My goal is that they will be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have full confidence because they have complete understanding of God's secret plan, which is Christ himself. 2 My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ,
In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
I am telling you this so that no one will be able to deceive you with persuasive arguments. 4 I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.
For though I am far away from you, my heart is with you. And I am very happy because you are living as you should and because of your strong faith in Christ. 5 For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how orderly you are and how firm your faith in Christ is.
And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to live in obedience to him. 6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him,
Let your roots grow down into him and draw up nourishment from him, so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all he has done. 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
