New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
I am telling you this so that no one will be able to deceive you with persuasive arguments. 4 I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.
For though I am far away from you, my heart is with you. And I am very happy because you are living as you should and because of your strong faith in Christ. 5 For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how orderly you are and how firm your faith in Christ is.
And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to live in obedience to him. 6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him,
Let your roots grow down into him and draw up nourishment from him, so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all he has done. 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
Don't let anyone lead you astray with empty philosophy and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the evil powers of this world, and not from Christ. 8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.
For in Christ the fullness of God lives in a human body, 9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form,
and you are complete through your union with Christ. He is the Lord over every ruler and authority in the universe. 10 and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.
When you came to Christ, you were "circumcised," but not by a physical procedure. It was a spiritual procedure -- the cutting away of your sinful nature. 11 In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ,
For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to a new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. 12 having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.
You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ. He forgave all our sins. 13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,
He canceled the record that contained the charges against us. He took it and destroyed it by nailing it to Christ's cross. 14 having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.
