King James Version (KJV) New International Version (NIV)
A time to love , and a time to hate ; a time of war, and a time of peace. 8 a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.
What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth? 9 What does the worker gain from his toil?
I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it. 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on men.
He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice , and to do good in his life. 12 I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live.
And also that every man should eat and drink , and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God. 13 That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil--this is the gift of God.
I know that, whatsoever God doeth , it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him. 14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him.
That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past . 15 Whatever is has already been, and what will be has been before; and God will call the past to account.
And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there. 16 And I saw something else under the sun: In the place of judgment--wickedness was there, in the place of justice--wickedness was there.
I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work. 17 I thought in my heart, "God will bring to judgment both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time for every activity, a time for every deed."
I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts. 18 I also thought, "As for men, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals.
