1 Ihr Kinder, gehorchet euren Eltern im Herrn, denn das ist recht. "Ehre deinen Vater und deine Mutter",

1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

2 welches das erste Gebot mit Verheißung ist,

2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise—

3 "auf daß es dir wohlgehe und du lange lebest auf der Erde".

3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

4 Und ihr Väter, reizet eure Kinder nicht zum Zorn, sondern ziehet sie auf in der Zucht und Ermahnung des Herrn.

4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
