The Message (MSG) New International Version (NIV)
a long-range plan in which everything would be brought together and summed up in him, everything in deepest heaven, everything on planet earth. 10 to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment--to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.
It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, 11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,
part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone. 12 in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.
It's in Christ that you, once you heard the truth and believed it (this Message of your salvation), found yourselves home free - signed, sealed, and delivered by the Holy Spirit. 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,
This signet from God is the first installment on what's coming, a reminder that we'll get everything God has planned for us, a praising and glorious life. 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory.
That's why, when I heard of the solid trust you have in the Master Jesus and your outpouring of love to all the Christians, 15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints,
I couldn't stop thanking God for you - every time I prayed, I'd think of you and give thanks. 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.
But I do more than thank. I ask - ask the God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God of glory - to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing him personally, 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.
your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is he is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life he has for Christians, 18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,
oh, the utter extravagance of his work in us who trust him - endless energy, boundless strength! 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength,
All this energy issues from Christ: God raised him from death and set him on a throne in deep heaven, 20 which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms,
