King James Version (KJV) New International Version (NIV)
But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. 7 But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.
Wherefore he saith , When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 8 This is why it says: "When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men."
(Now that he ascended , what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 9 (What does "he ascended" mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions ?
He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) 10 He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.)
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers,
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 12 to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro , and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness , whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part , maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
