New American Standard (NAS) New International Version (NIV)
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children
and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. 2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints; 3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people.
and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person--such a man is an idolater--has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient.
Therefore do not be partakers with them; 7 Therefore do not be partners with them.
for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord ; walk as children of Light 8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
(for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth ), 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord . 10 and find out what pleases the Lord.
Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. 12 For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible,
For this reason it says, "Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you." 14 for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."
Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, 15 Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise,
making the most of your time, because the days are evil. 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.
And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord ; 19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord,
always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ. 21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
