New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
So Hathach returned to Esther with Mordecai's message. 9 Hathach went back and reported to Esther what Mordecai had said.
Then Esther told Hathach to go back and relay this message to Mordecai: 10 Then she instructed him to say to Mordecai,
"The whole world knows that anyone who appears before the king in his inner court without being invited is doomed to die unless the king holds out his gold scepter. And the king has not called for me to come to him in more than a month." 11 "All the king's officials and the people of the royal provinces know that for any man or woman who approaches the king in the inner court without being summoned the king has but one law: that he be put to death. The only exception to this is for the king to extend the gold scepter to him and spare his life. But thirty days have passed since I was called to go to the king."
So Hathach gave Esther's message to Mordecai. 12 When Esther's words were reported to Mordecai,
Mordecai sent back this reply to Esther: "Don't think for a moment that you will escape there in the palace when all other Jews are killed. 13 he sent back this answer: "Do not think that because you are in the king's house you alone of all the Jews will escape.
If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. What's more, who can say but that you have been elevated to the palace for just such a time as this?" 14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?"
Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: 15 Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai:
"Go and gather together all the Jews of Susa and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will do the same. And then, though it is against the law, I will go in to see the king. If I must die, I am willing to die." 16 "Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maids will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish."
So Mordecai went away and did as Esther told him. 17 So Mordecai went away and carried out all of Esther's instructions.
