Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward heaven that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, a darkness to be felt." 21 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that darkness will spread over Egypt--darkness that can be felt."
So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days; 22 So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and total darkness covered all Egypt for three days.
they did not see one another, nor did any rise from his place for three days; but all the people of Israel had light where they dwelt. 23 No one could see anyone else or leave his place for three days. Yet all the Israelites had light in the places where they lived.
Then Pharaoh called Moses, and said, "Go, serve the LORD; your children also may go with you; only let your flocks and your herds remain behind." 24 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, "Go, worship the LORD. Even your women and children may go with you; only leave your flocks and herds behind."
But Moses said, "You must also let us have sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God. 25 But Moses said, "You must allow us to have sacrifices and burnt offerings to present to the LORD our God.
Our cattle also must go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind, for we must take of them to serve the LORD our God, and we do not know with what we must serve the LORD until we arrive there." 26 Our livestock too must go with us; not a hoof is to be left behind. We have to use some of them in worshiping the LORD our God, and until we get there we will not know what we are to use to worship the LORD."
But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go. 27 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he was not willing to let them go.
Then Pharaoh said to him, "Get away from me; take heed to yourself; never see my face again; for in the day you see my face you shall die." 28 Pharaoh said to Moses, "Get out of my sight! Make sure you do not appear before me again! The day you see my face you will die."
Moses said, "As you say! I will not see your face again." 29 "Just as you say," Moses replied, "I will never appear before you again."
