King James Version (KJV) New International Version (NIV)
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free , and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. 1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised , Christ shall profit you nothing. 2 Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.
For I testify again to every man that is circumcised , that he is a debtor to do the whole law. 3 Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.
Christ is become of no effect unto you , whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. 4 You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.
For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. 5 But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope.
For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.
Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? 7 You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth?
This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you. 8 That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you.
A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. 9 "A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough."
I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded : but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be . 10 I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be.
And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution ? then is the offence of the cross ceased . 11 Brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished.
I would they were even cut off which trouble you. 12 As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!
