New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
while Abel brought several choice lambs from the best of his flock. The LORD accepted Abel and his offering, 4 But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering,
but he did not accept Cain and his offering. This made Cain very angry and dejected. 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.
"Why are you so angry?" the LORD asked him. "Why do you look so dejected? 6 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast?
You will be accepted if you respond in the right way. But if you refuse to respond correctly, then watch out! Sin is waiting to attack and destroy you, and you must subdue it." 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it."
Later Cain suggested to his brother, Abel, "Let's go out into the fields." And while they were there, Cain attacked and killed his brother. 8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let's go out to the field." And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.
