Revised Standard Version (RSV) New International Version (NIV)
This makes Jesus the surety of a better covenant. 22 Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.
The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office; 23 Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office;
but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues for ever. 24 but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood.
Consequently he is able for all time to save those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. 25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless, unstained, separated from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 26 Such a high priest meets our need--one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.
He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; he did this once for all when he offered up himself. 27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.
Indeed, the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect for ever. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.
