"Comfort and keep comforting my people," says your God. 1 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.
"Tell Yerushalayim to take heart; proclaim to her that she has completed her time of service, that her guilt has been paid off, that she has received at the hand of ADONAI double for all her sins." 2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has received from the LORD's hand double for all her sins.
A voice cries out: "Clear a road through the desert for ADONAI! Level a highway in the 'Aravah for our God! 3 A voice of one calling: "In the desert prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God.
Let every valley be filled in, every mountain and hill lowered, the bumpy places made level and the crags become a plain. 4 Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain.
Then the glory of ADONAI will be revealed; all humankind together will see it, for the mouth of ADONAI has spoken." 5 And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken."
A voice says, "Proclaim!" And I answer, "What should I proclaim?" "All humanity is merely grass, all its kindness like wildflowers: 6 A voice says, "Cry out." And I said, "What shall I cry?" "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field.
