My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy, 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance; 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
and let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing. 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
But ask in faith, never doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind; 6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
8 for the doubter, being double-minded and unstable in every way, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 7 That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord;
8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.
Let the believer who is lowly boast in being raised up, 9 The brother in humble circumstances ought to take pride in his high position.
and the rich in being brought low, because the rich will disappear like a flower in the field. 10 But the one who is rich should take pride in his low position, because he will pass away like a wild flower.
For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the field; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. It is the same way with the rich; in the midst of a busy life, they will wither away. 11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business.
Blessed is anyone who endures temptation. Such a one has stood the test and will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. 12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
No one, when tempted, should say, "I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil and he himself tempts no one. 13 When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;
But one is tempted by one's own desire, being lured and enticed by it; 14 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.
then, when that desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and that sin, when it is fully grown, gives birth to death. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
Do not be deceived, my beloved. 16 Don't be deceived, my dear brothers.
Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
In fulfillment of his own purpose he gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would become a kind of first fruits of his creatures. 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
