New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
And remember, it is a message to obey, not just to listen to. If you don't obey, you are only fooling yourself. 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
For if you just listen and don't obey, it is like looking at your face in a mirror but doing nothing to improve your appearance. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror
You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
But if you keep looking steadily into God's perfect law -- the law that sets you free -- and if you do what it says and don't forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. 25 But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it--he will be blessed in what he does.
If you claim to be religious but don't control your tongue, you are just fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. 26 If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.
