New Revised Standard (NRS) New International Version (NIV)
Who is wise and understanding among you? Show by your good life that your works are done with gentleness born of wisdom. 13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not be boastful and false to the truth. 14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.
Such wisdom does not come down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, devilish. 15 Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil.
For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and wickedness of every kind. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy. 17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace for those who make peace. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.
