But a Samaritan while traveling came near him; and when he saw him, he was moved with pity. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.
He went to him and bandaged his wounds, having poured oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him.
The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said, "Take care of him; and when I come back, I will repay you whatever more you spend.' 35 The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'
Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?" 36 "Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?"
He said, "The one who showed him mercy." Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise." 37 The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."
Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.
She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to what he was saying. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said.
But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me." 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself ? Tell her to help me!"
But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; 41 "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things,
there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her." 42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
