For I tell you, not one of those men who were invited will enjoy my banquet!' " 24 I tell you, not one of those men who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.' "
Now great crowds were traveling with Him. So He turned and said to them: 25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said:
"If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters-yes, and even his own life-he cannot be My disciple. 26 "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters--yes, even his own life--he cannot be my disciple.
Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. 27 And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.
"For which of you, wanting to build a tower, doesn't first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it? 28 "Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it?
Otherwise, after he has laid the foundation and cannot finish it, all the onlookers will begin to make fun of him, 29 For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him,
saying, 'This man started to build and wasn't able to finish.' 30 saying, 'This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.'
"Or what king, going to war against another king, will not first sit down and decide if he is able with 10,000 to oppose the one who comes against him with 20,000? 31 "Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Will he not first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand?
If not, while the other is still far off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace.
In the same way, therefore, every one of you who does not say good-bye to all his possessions cannot be My disciple. 33 In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.
"Now, salt is good, but if salt should lose its taste, how will it be made salty? 34 "Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?
It isn't fit for the soil or for the manure pile; they throw it out. Anyone who has ears to hear should listen!" 35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out. "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
