58 And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.
58 A little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” “Man, I am not!” Peter replied.
59 And about the space of one hour after, another confidently affirmed, saying, In truth this [man] also was with him; for he is a Galilean.
59 About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.”
60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he was yet speaking, the cock crowed.
60 Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed.
61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, Before the cock shall crow, thou wilt deny me thrice.
61 The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.”
62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.
63 And the men that held Jesus, mocked him, and smote [him].
63 The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him.
64 And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?
64 They blindfolded him and demanded, “Prophesy! Who hit you?”
65 And many other things blasphemously they spoke against him.
65 And they said many other insulting things to him.
66 And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people, and the chief priests, and the scribes came together, and led him into their council,
66 At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them.
67 Saying, Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said to them, If I tell you, ye will not believe.
67 “If you are the Messiah,” they said, “tell us.” Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe me,
68 And if I also ask [you], ye will not answer me, nor let [me] go.
68 and if I asked you, you would not answer.
