New Revised Standard (NRS) New International Version (NIV)
And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. 16 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to set before the people.
And all ate and were filled. What was left over was gathered up, twelve baskets of broken pieces. 17 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.
Once when Jesus was praying alone, with only the disciples near him, he asked them, "Who do the crowds say that I am?" 18 Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, "Who do the crowds say I am?"
They answered, "John the Baptist; but others, Elijah; and still others, that one of the ancient prophets has arisen." 19 They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life."
He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered, "The Messiah of God." 20 "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" Peter answered, "The Christ of God."
He sternly ordered and commanded them not to tell anyone, 21 Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone.
saying, "The Son of Man must undergo great suffering, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised." 22 And he said, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life."
Then he said to them all, "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. 23 Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will save it. 24 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it.
What does it profit them if they gain the whole world, but lose or forfeit themselves? 25 What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self ?
Those who are ashamed of me and of my words, of them the Son of Man will be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. 26 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
