Holman Christian Standard (CSB) New International Version (NIV)
When the days were coming to a close for Him to be taken up, He determined to journey to Jerusalem. 51 As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.
He sent messengers ahead of Him, and on the way they entered a village of the Samaritans to make preparations for Him. 52 And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him;
But they did not welcome Him, because He determined to journey to Jerusalem. 53 but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem.
When the disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do You want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?" 54 When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, "Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them ?"
But He turned and rebuked them, 55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them,
and they went to another village. 56 and they went to another village.
As they were traveling on the road someone said to Him, "I will follow You wherever You go!" 57 As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go."
Jesus told him, "Foxes have dens, and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head." 58 Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."
Then He said to another, "Follow Me." "Lord," he said, "first let me go bury my father." 59 He said to another man, "Follow me." But the man replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."
But He told him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and spread the news of the kingdom of God." 60 Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God."
Another also said, "I will follow You, Lord, but first let me go and say good-bye to those at my house." 61 Still another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say good-by to my family."
But Jesus said to him, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God." 62 Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."
