New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed. "If you want to, you can make me well again," he said. 40 A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, "If you are willing, you can make me clean."
Moved with pity, Jesus touched him. "I want to," he said. "Be healed!" 41 Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!"
Instantly the leprosy disappeared -- the man was healed. 42 Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cured.
Then Jesus sent him on his way and told him sternly, 43 Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning:
"Go right over to the priest and let him examine you. Don't talk to anyone along the way. Take along the offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy, so everyone will have proof of your healing." 44 "See that you don't tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them."
But as the man went on his way, he spread the news, telling everyone what had happened to him. As a result, such crowds soon surrounded Jesus that he couldn't enter a town anywhere publicly. He had to stay out in the secluded places, and people from everywhere came to him there. 45 Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.
