When Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered around him; and he was by the sea. 21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake.
Then one of the leaders of the synagogue named Jairus came and, when he saw him, fell at his feet 22 Then one of the synagogue rulers, named Jairus, came there. Seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet
and begged him repeatedly, "My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well, and live." 23 and pleaded earnestly with him, "My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live."
So he went with him. And a large crowd followed him and pressed in on him. 24 So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him.
Now there was a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years.
She had endured much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had; and she was no better, but rather grew worse. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse.
She had heard about Jesus, and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak,
for she said, "If I but touch his clothes, I will be made well." 28 because she thought, "If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed."
Immediately her hemorrhage stopped; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.
Immediately aware that power had gone forth from him, Jesus turned about in the crowd and said, "Who touched my clothes?" 30 At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who touched my clothes?"
And his disciples said to him, "You see the crowd pressing in on you; how can you say, "Who touched me?' " 31 "You see the people crowding against you," his disciples answered, "and yet you can ask, 'Who touched me?' "
He looked all around to see who had done it. 32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it.
But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling, fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth.
He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease." 34 He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."
While he was still speaking, some people came from the leader's house to say, "Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?" 35 While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. "Your daughter is dead," they said. "Why bother the teacher any more?"
But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the leader of the synagogue, "Do not fear, only believe." 36 Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, "Don't be afraid; just believe."
He allowed no one to follow him except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James. 37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.
When they came to the house of the leader of the synagogue, he saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue ruler, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly.
When he had entered, he said to them, "Why do you make a commotion and weep? The child is not dead but sleeping." 39 He went in and said to them, "Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep."
And they laughed at him. Then he put them all outside, and took the child's father and mother and those who were with him, and went in where the child was. 40 But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child's father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was.
He took her by the hand and said to her, "Talitha cum," which means, "Little girl, get up!" 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, ""Talitha koum!"" (which means, "Little girl, I say to you, get up!").
And immediately the girl got up and began to walk about (she was twelve years of age). At this they were overcome with amazement. 42 Immediately the girl stood up and walked around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished.
He strictly ordered them that no one should know this, and told them to give her something to eat. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.
