New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
Jesus left Tyre and went to Sidon, then back to the Sea of Galilee and the region of the Ten Towns. 31 Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee and into the region of the Decapolis.
A deaf man with a speech impediment was brought to him, and the people begged Jesus to lay his hands on the man to heal him. 32 There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged him to place his hand on the man.
Jesus led him to a private place away from the crowd. He put his fingers into the man's ears. Then, spitting onto his own fingers, he touched the man's tongue with the spittle. 33 After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man's ears. Then he spit and touched the man's tongue.
And looking up to heaven, he sighed and commanded, "Be opened!" 34 He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, ""Ephphatha!"" (which means, "Be opened!").
Instantly the man could hear perfectly and speak plainly! 35 At this, the man's ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.
