New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
"You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it useful again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. 13 "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
You are the light of the world -- like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. 14 "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
Don't hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
