"Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. 1 "Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
For with the judgment you make you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
Why do you see the speck in your neighbor's eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye? 3 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
Or how can you say to your neighbor, "Let me take the speck out of your eye,' while the log is in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?
You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbor's eye. 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
"Do not give what is holy to dogs; and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under foot and turn and maul you. 6 "Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.
"Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. 7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for bread, will give a stone? 9 "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
Or if the child asks for a fish, will give a snake? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?
If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him! 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
"In everything do to others as you would have them do to you; for this is the law and the prophets. 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
"Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it. 13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles? 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
In the same way, every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Thus you will know them by their fruits. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
"Not everyone who says to me, "Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. 21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
On that day many will say to me, "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many deeds of power in your name?' 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?'
Then I will declare to them, "I never knew you; go away from me, you evildoers.' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
"Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. 24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its fall!" 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."
Now when Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were astounded at his teaching, 28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching,
for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes. 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
