New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
"You can enter God's Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose the easy way. 13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
But the gateway to life is small, and the road is narrow, and only a few ever find it." 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
"Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep, but are really wolves that will tear you apart. 15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
You can detect them by the way they act, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit. You don't pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
A healthy tree produces good fruit, and an unhealthy tree produces bad fruit. 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
A good tree can't produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can't produce good fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Yes, the way to identify a tree or a person is by the kind of fruit that is produced." 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
"Not all people who sound religious are really godly. They may refer to me as 'Lord,' but they still won't enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The decisive issue is whether they obey my Father in heaven. 21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
