If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, 1 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,
make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, 5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death— even death on a cross. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!
Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed me, not only in my presence, but much more now in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,
for it is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for his good pleasure. 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.
Do all things without murmuring and arguing, 14 Do everything without complaining or arguing,
so that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine like stars in the world. 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe
It is by your holding fast to the word of life that I can boast on the day of Christ that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. 16 as you hold out the word of life--in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.
But even if I am being poured out as a libation over the sacrifice and the offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you— 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.
and in the same way you also must be glad and rejoice with me. 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.
