Revised Standard Version (RSV) New International Version (NIV)
So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any incentive of love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 1 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,
complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.
Do nothing from selfishness or conceit, but in humility count others better than yourselves. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!
Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,
for God is at work in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.
Do all things without grumbling or questioning, 14 Do everything without complaining or arguing,
that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe
holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. 16 as you hold out the word of life--in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.
Even if I am to be poured as a libation upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.
Likewise you also should be glad and rejoice with me. 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.
