Revised Standard Version (RSV) New International Version (NIV)
A faithful man will abound with blessings, but he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished. 20 A faithful man will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.
To show partiality is not good; but for a piece of bread a man will do wrong. 21 To show partiality is not good-- yet a man will do wrong for a piece of bread.
A miserly man hastens after wealth, and does not know that want will come upon him. 22 A stingy man is eager to get rich and is unaware that poverty awaits him.
He who rebukes a man will afterward find more favor than he who flatters with his tongue. 23 He who rebukes a man will in the end gain more favor than he who has a flattering tongue.
He who robs his father or his mother and says, "That is no transgression," is the companion of a man who destroys. 24 He who robs his father or mother and says, "It's not wrong"-- he is partner to him who destroys.
A greedy man stirs up strife, but he who trusts in the LORD will be enriched. 25 A greedy man stirs up dissension, but he who trusts in the LORD will prosper.
He who trusts in his own mind is a fool; but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered. 26 He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe.
He who gives to the poor will not want, but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse. 27 He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses.
When the wicked rise, men hide themselves, but when they perish, the righteous increase. 28 When the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding; but when the wicked perish, the righteous thrive.
