Revised Standard Version (RSV) New International Version (NIV)
to preserve you from the evil woman, from the smooth tongue of the adventuress. 24 keeping you from the immoral woman, from the smooth tongue of the wayward wife.
Do not desire her beauty in your heart, and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes; 25 Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes,
for a harlot may be hired for a loaf of bread, but an adulteress stalks a man's very life. 26 for the prostitute reduces you to a loaf of bread, and the adulteress preys upon your very life.
Can a man carry fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned? 27 Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned?
Or can one walk upon hot coals and his feet not be scorched? 28 Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched?
So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife; none who touches her will go unpunished. 29 So is he who sleeps with another man's wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished.
