1 For the choir director: A psalm of David, to be accompanied by a stringed instrument. O LORD, our Lord, the majesty of your name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens. 1 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.
2 You have taught children and nursing infants to give you praise. They silence your enemies who were seeking revenge. 2 From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers -- the moon and the stars you have set in place -- 3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4 what are mortals that you should think of us, mere humans that you should care for us? 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?
5 For you made us only a little lower than God, and you crowned us with glory and honor. 5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You put us in charge of everything you made, giving us authority over all things -- 6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet:
