The word of the Lord is against the land of Hadrach and will rest upon Damascus. For to the Lord belongs the capital of Aram, as do all the tribes of Israel; 1 The word of the LORD is against the land of Hadrach and will rest upon Damascus-- for the eyes of men and all the tribes of Israel are on the LORD--
Hamath also, which borders on it, Tyre and Sidon, though they are very wise. 2 and upon Hamath too, which borders on it, and upon Tyre and Sidon, though they are very skillful.
Tyre has built itself a rampart, and heaped up silver like dust, and gold like the dirt of the streets. 3 Tyre has built herself a stronghold; she has heaped up silver like dust, and gold like the dirt of the streets.
But now, the Lord will strip it of its possessions and hurl its wealth into the sea, and it shall be devoured by fire. 4 But the Lord will take away her possessions and destroy her power on the sea, and she will be consumed by fire.
Ashkelon shall see it and be afraid; Gaza too, and shall writhe in anguish; Ekron also, because its hopes are withered. The king shall perish from Gaza; Ashkelon shall be uninhabited; 5 Ashkelon will see it and fear; Gaza will writhe in agony, and Ekron too, for her hope will wither. Gaza will lose her king and Ashkelon will be deserted.
a mongrel people shall settle in Ashdod, and I will make an end of the pride of Philistia. 6 Foreigners will occupy Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.
I will take away its blood from its mouth, and its abominations from between its teeth; it too shall be a remnant for our God; it shall be like a clan in Judah, and Ekron shall be like the Jebusites. 7 I will take the blood from their mouths, the forbidden food from between their teeth. Those who are left will belong to our God and become leaders in Judah, and Ekron will be like the Jebusites.
Then I will encamp at my house as a guard, so that no one shall march to and fro; no oppressor shall again overrun them, for now I have seen with my own eyes. 8 But I will defend my house against marauding forces. Never again will an oppressor overrun my people, for now I am keeping watch.
