1 Thessalonians 5:12-22

MSG

NIV

12 And now, friends, we ask you to honor those leaders who work so hard for you, who have been given the responsibility of urging and guiding you along in your obedience.
12 Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you.
13 Overwhelm them with appreciation and love!
13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.
14 Our counsel is that you warn the freeloaders to get a move on. Gently encourage the stragglers, and reach out for the exhausted, pulling them to their feet. Be patient with each person, attentive to individual needs.
14 And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
15 And be careful that when you get on each other's nerves you don't snap at each other. Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out.
15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.
16 Be cheerful no matter what;
16 Rejoice always,
17 pray all the time;
17 pray continually,
18 thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.
18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
19 Don't suppress the Spirit,
19 Do not quench the Spirit.
20 and don't stifle those who have a word from the Master.
20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt
21 On the other hand, don't be gullible. Check out everything, and keep only what's good.
21 but test them all; hold on to what is good,
22 Throw out anything tainted with evil.
22 reject every kind of evil.
