1 Corinthians 11

CSB 1 Be imitators of me, as I also am of Christ. NIV 1 Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. CSB 2 Now I praise you because you remember me in all things and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you. NIV 2 I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the teachings, just as I passed them on to you. CSB 3 But I want you to know that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of the woman, and God is the head of Christ. NIV 3 Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. CSB 4 Every man who prays or prophesies with something on his head dishonors his head. NIV 4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. CSB 5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, since that is one and the same as having her head shaved. NIV 5 And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head--it is just as though her head were shaved. CSB 6 So if a woman's head is not covered, her hair should be cut off. But if it is disgraceful for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, she should be covered. NIV 6 If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head. CSB 7 A man, in fact, should not cover his head, because he is God's image and glory, but woman is man's glory. NIV 7 A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. CSB 8 For man did not come from woman, but woman came from man; NIV 8 For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; CSB 9 and man was not created for woman, but woman for man. NIV 9 neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. CSB 10 This is why a woman should have [a symbol of] authority on her head: because of the angels. NIV 10 For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head. CSB 11 However, in the Lord, woman is not independent of man, and man is not independent of woman. NIV 11 In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. CSB 12 For just as woman came from man, so man comes through woman, and all things come from God. NIV 12 For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God. CSB 13 Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? NIV 13 Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? CSB 14 Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair it is a disgrace to him, NIV 14 Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, CSB 15 but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her as a covering. NIV 15 but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. CSB 16 But if anyone wants to argue about this, we have no other custom, nor do the churches of God. NIV 16 If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice--nor do the churches of God. CSB 17 Now in giving the following instruction I do not praise you, since you come together not for the better but for the worse. NIV 17 In the following directives I have no praise for you, for your meetings do more harm than good. CSB 18 For, to begin with, I hear that when you come together as a church there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it. NIV 18 In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and to some extent I believe it. CSB 19 There must, indeed, be factions among you, so that the approved among you may be recognized. NIV 19 No doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of you have God's approval. CSB 20 Therefore when you come together in one place, it is not really to eat the Lord's Supper. NIV 20 When you come together, it is not the Lord's Supper you eat, CSB 21 For in eating, each one takes his own supper ahead of others, and one person is hungry while another is drunk! NIV 21 for as you eat, each of you goes ahead without waiting for anybody else. One remains hungry, another gets drunk. CSB 22 Don't you have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you look down on the church of God and embarrass those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? I do not praise you for this! NIV 22 Don't you have homes to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you for this? Certainly not! CSB 23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: on the night when He was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread, NIV 23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, CSB 24 gave thanks, broke it, and said, "This is My body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of Me." NIV 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." CSB 25 In the same way [He] also [took] the cup, after supper, and said, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." NIV 25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me." CSB 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes. NIV 26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. CSB 27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy way will be guilty of sin against the body and blood of the Lord. NIV 27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. CSB 28 So a man should examine himself; in this way he should eat of the bread and drink of the cup. NIV 28 A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. CSB 29 For whoever eats and drinks without recognizing the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself. NIV 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. CSB 30 This is why many are sick and ill among you, and many have fallen asleep. NIV 30 That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. CSB 31 If we were properly evaluating ourselves, we would not be judged, NIV 31 But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment. CSB 32 but when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord, so that we may not be condemned with the world. NIV 32 When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world. CSB 33 Therefore, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. NIV 33 So then, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for each other. CSB 34 If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that you can come together and not cause judgment. And I will give instructions about the other matters whenever I come. NIV 34 If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you meet together it may not result in judgment. And when I come I will give further directions.
