1 Corinthians 12

BBE 1 But about the things of the spirit, my brothers, it is not right for you to be without teaching. NIV 1 Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. BBE 2 You are conscious that when you were Gentiles, in whatever way you were guided, you went after images without voice or power. NIV 2 You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. BBE 3 So it is my desire for you to be clear about this; that no one is able to say by the Spirit of God that Jesus is cursed; and no one is able to say that Jesus is Lord, but by the Holy Spirit. NIV 3 Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. BBE 4 Now there are different qualities given to men, but the same Spirit. NIV 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. BBE 5 And there are different sorts of servants, but the same Lord. NIV 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. BBE 6 And there are different operations, but the same God, who is working all things in all. NIV 6 There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. BBE 7 But to every man some form of the Spirit's working is given for the common good. NIV 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. BBE 8 For to one are given words of wisdom through the Spirit; and to another words of knowledge through the same Spirit: NIV 8 To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, BBE 9 To another faith in the same Spirit; and to another the power of taking away disease, by the one Spirit; NIV 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, BBE 10 And to another the power of working wonders; and to another the prophet's word; and to another the power of testing spirits; to another different sorts of tongues; and to another the power of making clear the sense of the tongues: NIV 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. BBE 11 But all these are the operations of the one and the same Spirit, giving to every man separately as his pleasure is. NIV 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. BBE 12 For as the body is one, and has a number of parts, and all the parts make one body, so is Christ. NIV 12 The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. BBE 13 For through the baptism of the one Spirit we were all formed into one body, Jews or Greeks, servants or free men, and were all made full of the same Spirit. NIV 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free--and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. BBE 14 For the body is not one part, but a number of parts. NIV 14 Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. BBE 15 If the foot says, Because I am not the hand, I am not a part of the body; it is no less a part of the body. NIV 15 If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. BBE 16 And if the ear says, Because I am not the eye, I am not a part of the body; it is a part of the body all the same. NIV 16 And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. BBE 17 If all the body was an eye, where would be the hearing? if all was hearing, where would be the smelling? NIV 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? BBE 18 But now God has put every one of the parts in the body as it was pleasing to him. NIV 18 But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. BBE 19 And if they were all one part, where would the body be? NIV 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? BBE 20 But now they are all different parts, but one body. NIV 20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body. BBE 21 And the eye may not say to the hand, I have no need of you: or again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. NIV 21 The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!" BBE 22 No, those parts which seem to be feeble are the more necessary; NIV 22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, BBE 23 And to those parts of the body which seem to have less honour we give all the more honour; and to those parts of the body which are a cause of shame to us we give the greater respect; NIV 23 and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, BBE 24 But those parts of the body which are beautiful have no need of such care: and so the body has been joined together by God in such a way as to give more honour to those parts which had need of it; NIV 24 while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, BBE 25 So that there might be no division in the body; but all the parts might have the same care for one another. NIV 25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. BBE 26 And if there is pain in one part of the body, all the parts will be feeling it; or if one part is honoured, all the parts will be glad. NIV 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. BBE 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and every one of you the separate parts of it. NIV 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. BBE 28 And God has put some in the church, first, Apostles; second, prophets; third, teachers; then those with wonder-working powers, then those with the power of taking away disease, helpers, wise guides, users of strange tongues. NIV 28 And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues. BBE 29 Are all Apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? have all the power of working wonders? NIV 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? BBE 30 Are all able to take away disease? have all the power of tongues? are all able to give their sense? NIV 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues ? Do all interpret? BBE 31 But let your desires be turned to the more important things given by the Spirit. And now I am pointing out to you an even better way. NIV 31 But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.
