1 Corinthians 12

LEB 1 Now concerning spiritual [gifts], brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. NIV 1 Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. LEB 2 You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to the speechless idols, however you were led. NIV 2 You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. LEB 3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus [is] accursed," and no one is able to say "Jesus [is] Lord" except by the Holy Spirit. NIV 3 Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. LEB 4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit, NIV 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. LEB 5 and there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord, NIV 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. LEB 6 and there are varieties of activities, but the same God, who works all [things] in all [people]. NIV 6 There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. LEB 7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for what is beneficial [to all]. NIV 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. LEB 8 For to one is given a word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another a word of knowledge by the same Spirit, NIV 8 To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, LEB 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, NIV 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, LEB 10 to another {miraculous powers}, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing of spirits, to another kinds of tongues, to another interpretation of tongues. NIV 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. LEB 11 But in all these [things] one and the same Spirit is at work, distributing to each one individually just as he wishes. NIV 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. LEB 12 For just as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of the body, [although they] are many, are one body, thus also Christ. NIV 12 The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. LEB 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free [persons], and all were made to drink one Spirit. NIV 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free--and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. LEB 14 For the body is not one member, but many. NIV 14 Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. LEB 15 If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I am not [a part] of the body," not because of this is it not [a part] of the body. NIV 15 If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. LEB 16 And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I am not [a part] of the body, not because of this is it not [a part] of the body. NIV 16 And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. LEB 17 If the whole body [were] an eye, where [would] the hearing [be]? If the whole [were] hearing, where [would] the sense of smell [be]? NIV 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? LEB 18 But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body just as he wanted. NIV 18 But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. LEB 19 And if they all were one member, where [would] the body [be]? NIV 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? LEB 20 But now [there are] many members, but one body. NIV 20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body. LEB 21 Now the eye is not able to say to the hand, "I do not have need of you," or again, the head to the feet, "I do not have need of you." NIV 21 The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!" LEB 22 But by much more the members of the body which are thought to be weaker are necessary, NIV 22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, LEB 23 and [the parts] of the body which we think to be less honorable, these we clothe with more abundant honor, and our unpresentable [parts] come to have more abundant presentability, NIV 23 and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, LEB 24 but our presentable [parts] do not have need [of this]. Yet God composed the body by giving more abundant honor to the part which lacked [it], NIV 24 while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, LEB 25 in order that there not be a division in the body, but the members would have the same concern for one another. NIV 25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. LEB 26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer together; if a member is honored, all the members rejoice with [it]. NIV 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. LEB 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members {of it individually}, NIV 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. LEB 28 and whom God has appointed in the church: first, apostles, second, prophets, third, teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helps, administrations, kinds of tongues. NIV 28 And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues. LEB 29 Not all [are] apostles, [are they]? Not all [are] prophets, [are they]? Not all [are] teachers, [are they]? Not all [are workers of] miracles, [are they]? NIV 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? LEB 30 Not all have gifts of healing, [do they]? Not all speak with tongues, [do they]? Not all interpret, [do they]? NIV 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues ? Do all interpret? LEB 31 But strive for the greater gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way. NIV 31 But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.
