1 Corinthians 6

ASV 1 Dare any of you, having a matter against his neighbor, go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? NIV 1 If any of you has a dispute with another, dare he take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the saints? ASV 2 Or know ye not that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world is judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? NIV 2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? ASV 3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more, things that pertain to this life? NIV 3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! ASV 4 If then ye have to judge things pertaining to this life, do ye set them to judge who are of no account in the church? NIV 4 Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, appoint as judges even men of little account in the church! ASV 5 I say [this] to move you to shame. What, cannot there be [found] among you one wise man who shall be able to decide between his brethren, NIV 5 I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? ASV 6 but brother goeth to law with brother, and that before unbelievers? NIV 6 But instead, one brother goes to law against another--and this in front of unbelievers! ASV 7 Nay, already it is altogether a defect in you, that ye have lawsuits one with another. Why not rather take wrong? why not rather be defrauded? NIV 7 The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? ASV 8 Nay, but ye yourselves do wrong, and defraud, and that [your] brethren. NIV 8 Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers. ASV 9 Or know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with men, NIV 9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders ASV 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. NIV 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. ASV 11 And such were some of you: but ye were washed, but ye were sanctified, but ye were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God. NIV 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. ASV 12 All things are lawful for me; but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful for me; but I will not be brought under the power of any. NIV 12 "Everything is permissible for me"--but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"--but I will not be mastered by anything. ASV 13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall bring to nought both it and them. But the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body: NIV 13 "Food for the stomach and the stomach for food"--but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. ASV 14 and God both raised the Lord, and will raise up as through his power. NIV 14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. ASV 15 Know ye not that your bodies are members of Christ? shall I then take away the members of Christ, and make them members of a harlot? God forbid. NIV 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! ASV 16 Or know ye not that he that is joined to a harlot is one body? for, The twain, saith he, shall become one flesh. NIV 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh." ASV 17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. NIV 17 But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit. ASV 18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. NIV 18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. ASV 19 Or know ye not that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which ye have from God? and ye are not your own; NIV 19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; ASV 20 for ye were bought with a price: glorify God therefore in your body. NIV 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
