1 John 3

YLT 1 See ye what love the Father hath given to us, that children of God we may be called; because of this the world doth not know us, because it did not know Him; NIV 1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. YLT 2 beloved, now, children of God are we, and it was not yet manifested what we shall be, and we have known that if he may be manifested, like him we shall be, because we shall see him as he is; NIV 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. YLT 3 and every one who is having this hope on him, doth purify himself, even as he is pure. NIV 3 Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure. YLT 4 Every one who is doing the sin, the lawlessness also he doth do, and the sin is the lawlessness, NIV 4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. YLT 5 and ye have known that he was manifested that our sins he may take away, and sin is not in him; NIV 5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. YLT 6 every one who is remaining in him doth not sin; every one who is sinning, hath not seen him, nor known him. NIV 6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. YLT 7 Little children, let no one lead you astray; he who is doing the righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous, NIV 7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. YLT 8 he who is doing the sin, of the devil he is, because from the beginning the devil doth sin; for this was the Son of God manifested, that he may break up the works of the devil; NIV 8 He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work. YLT 9 every one who hath been begotten of God, sin he doth not, because his seed in him doth remain, and he is not able to sin, because of God he hath been begotten. NIV 9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. YLT 10 In this manifest are the children of God, and the children of the devil; every one who is not doing righteousness, is not of God, and he who is not loving his brother, NIV 10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother. YLT 11 because this is the message that ye did hear from the beginning, that we may love one another, NIV 11 This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. YLT 12 not as Cain -- of the evil one he was, and he did slay his brother, and wherefore did he slay him? because his works were evil, and those of his brother righteous. NIV 12 Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother's were righteous. YLT 13 Do not wonder, my brethren, if the world doth hate you; NIV 13 Do not be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you. YLT 14 we -- we have known that we have passed out of the death to the life, because we love the brethren; he who is not loving the brother doth remain in the death. NIV 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death. YLT 15 Every one who is hating his brother -- a man-killer he is, and ye have known that no man-killer hath life age-during in him remaining, NIV 15 Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him. YLT 16 in this we have known the love, because he for us his life did lay down, and we ought for the brethren the lives to lay down; NIV 16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. YLT 17 and whoever may have the goods of the world, and may view his brother having need, and may shut up his bowels from him -- how doth the love of God remain in him? NIV 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? YLT 18 My little children, may we not love in word nor in tongue, but in word and in truth! NIV 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. YLT 19 and in this we know that of the truth we are, and before Him we shall assure our hearts, NIV 19 This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence YLT 20 because if our heart may condemn -- because greater is God than our heart, and He doth know all things. NIV 20 whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. YLT 21 Beloved, if our heart may not condemn us, we have boldness toward God, NIV 21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God YLT 22 and whatever we may ask, we receive from Him, because His commands we keep, and the things pleasing before Him we do, NIV 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him. YLT 23 and this is His command, that we may believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and may love one another, even as He did give command to us, NIV 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. YLT 24 and he who is keeping His commands, in Him he doth remain, and He in him; and in this we know that He doth remain in us, from the Spirit that He gave us. NIV 24 Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.
