1 Mis queridos hijos, les escribo estas cosas, para que no pequen; pero si alguno peca, tenemos un abogado que defiende nuestro caso ante el Padre. Es Jesucristo, el que es verdaderamente justo.

2 Él mismo es el sacrificio que pagó<br /> por nuestros pecados, y no solo los nuestros sino también los de todo el mundo.

3 Podemos estar seguros de que conocemos a Dios si obedecemos sus mandamientos.

4 Si alguien afirma: «Yo conozco a Dios», pero no obedece los mandamientos de Dios, es un mentiroso y no vive en la verdad;

5 pero los que obedecen la palabra de Dios demuestran verdaderamente cuánto lo aman.<br /> Así es como sabemos que vivimos en él.

6 Los que dicen que viven en Dios deben vivir como Jesús vivió.

7 Un mandamiento nuevo<br />Queridos amigos, no les escribo un mandamiento nuevo, sino más bien uno antiguo que han tenido desde el principio. Ese mandamiento antiguo —ámense unos a otros— es el mismo mensaje que oyeron antes.

8 Sin embargo, también es un mandamiento nuevo. Jesús vivió la verdad de este mandamiento, y ustedes también la viven. Pues la oscuridad está desapareciendo, y ya brilla la luz verdadera.

9 Si alguien afirma: «Vivo en la luz», pero odia a un hermano<br /> en Cristo, esa persona aún vive en la oscuridad.

10 El que ama a su hermano vive en la luz y no hace que otros tropiecen;

11 pero el que odia a su hermano todavía vive y camina en la oscuridad. No sabe por dónde ir, pues la oscuridad lo ha cegado.

12 Les escribo a ustedes, que son hijos de Dios,<br />porque sus pecados han sido perdonados por medio de Jesús.

13 Les escribo a ustedes, los que son maduros en la fe,<br />porque conocen a Cristo, quien existe desde el principio.<br />Les escribo a ustedes, los que son jóvenes en la fe,<br />porque han ganado la batalla contra el maligno.

14 Les he escrito a ustedes, que son hijos de Dios,<br />porque conocen al Padre.<br />Les he escrito a ustedes, los que son maduros en la fe,<br />porque conocen a Cristo, quien existe desde el principio.<br />Les he escrito a ustedes, los que son jóvenes en la fe,<br />porque son fuertes;<br />la palabra de Dios vive en sus corazones,<br />y han ganado la batalla contra el maligno.

15 No amen a este mundo<br />No amen a este mundo ni las cosas que les ofrece, porque cuando aman al mundo no tienen el amor del Padre en ustedes.

16 Pues el mundo solo ofrece un intenso deseo por el placer físico, un deseo insaciable por todo lo que vemos, y el orgullo de nuestros logros y posesiones. Nada de eso proviene del Padre, sino que viene del mundo;

17 y este mundo se acaba junto con todo lo que la gente tanto desea; pero el que hace lo que a Dios le agrada vivirá para siempre.

18 Cuidado con los anticristos<br />Queridos hijos, llegó la última hora. Ustedes han oído que el Anticristo viene, y ya han surgido muchos anticristos. Por eso sabemos que la última hora ha llegado.

19 Esas personas salieron de nuestras iglesias, pero en realidad nunca fueron parte de nosotros; de haber sido así, se habrían quedado con nosotros. Al irse demostraron que no eran parte de nosotros.

20 Pero ustedes no son así, porque el Santo les ha dado su Espíritu,<br /> y todos ustedes conocen la verdad.

21 Así que les escribo no porque no conozcan la verdad, sino porque conocen la diferencia entre la verdad y la mentira.

22 ¿Y quién es un mentiroso? El que dice que Jesús no es el Cristo.<br /> El que niega al Padre y al Hijo es un anticristo.

23 El que niega al Hijo tampoco tiene al Padre; pero el que confiesa al Hijo tiene al Padre también.

24 Por lo tanto, ustedes deben seguir fieles a lo que se les ha enseñado desde el principio. Si lo hacen, permanecerán en comunión con el Hijo y con el Padre;

25 y en esta comunión disfrutamos de la vida eterna que él nos prometió.

26 Les escribo estas cosas para advertirles acerca de los que quieren apartarlos del camino.

27 Ustedes han recibido al Espíritu Santo,<br /> y él vive dentro de cada uno de ustedes, así que no necesitan que nadie les enseñe lo que es la verdad. Pues el Espíritu<br /> les enseña todo lo que necesitan saber, y lo que él enseña es verdad, no mentira. Así que, tal como él les ha enseñado, permanezcan en comunión con Cristo.

28 Vivan como hijos de Dios<br />Y ahora, queridos hijos, permanezcan en comunión con Cristo para que, cuando él regrese, estén llenos de valor y no se alejen de él avergonzados.

29 Ya que sabemos que Cristo es justo, también sabemos que todos los que hacen lo que es justo son hijos de Dios.

1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.

2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands.

4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.

5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him:

6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

7 Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard.

8 Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.

9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness.

10 Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.

11 But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.

12 I am writing to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.

13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one.

14 I write to you, dear children, because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.

16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.

17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

18 Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.

19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.

20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.

21 I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth.

22 Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist—denying the Father and the Son.

23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

24 As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.

25 And this is what he promised us—eternal life.

26 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray.

27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.

28 And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.

29 If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.
