1 Kings 6

NKJV 1 And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the Lord. NIV 1 In the four hundred and eightieth year after the Israelites had come out of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, the second month, he began to build the temple of the LORD. NKJV 2 Now the house which King Solomon built for the Lord, its length was sixty cubits, its width twenty, and its height thirty cubits. NIV 2 The temple that King Solomon built for the LORD was sixty cubits long, twenty wide and thirty high. NKJV 3 The vestibule in front of the sanctuary of the house was twenty cubits long across the width of the house, and the width of the vestibule extended ten cubits from the front of the house. NIV 3 The portico at the front of the main hall of the temple extended the width of the temple, that is twenty cubits, and projected ten cubits from the front of the temple. NKJV 4 And he made for the house windows with beveled frames. NIV 4 He made narrow clerestory windows in the temple. NKJV 5 Against the wall of the temple he built chambers all around, against the walls of the temple, all around the sanctuary and the inner sanctuary. Thus he made side chambers all around it. NIV 5 Against the walls of the main hall and inner sanctuary he built a structure around the building, in which there were side rooms. NKJV 6 The lowest chamber was five cubits wide, the middle was six cubits wide, and the third was seven cubits wide; for he made narrow ledges around the outside of the temple, so that the support beams would not be fastened into the walls of the temple. NIV 6 The lowest floor was five cubits wide, the middle floor six cubits and the third floor seven. He made offset ledges around the outside of the temple so that nothing would be inserted into the temple walls. NKJV 7 And the temple, when it was being built, was built with stone finished at the quarry, so that no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built. NIV 7 In building the temple, only blocks dressed at the quarry were used, and no hammer, chisel or any other iron tool was heard at the temple site while it was being built. NKJV 8 The doorway for the middle story was on the right side of the temple. They went up by stairs to the middle story, and from the middle to the third. NIV 8 The entrance to the lowest floor was on the south side of the temple; a stairway led up to the middle level and from there to the third. NKJV 9 So he built the temple and finished it, and he paneled the temple with beams and boards of cedar. NIV 9 So he built the temple and completed it, roofing it with beams and cedar planks. NKJV 10 And he built side chambers against the entire temple, each five cubits high; they were attached to the temple with cedar beams. NIV 10 And he built the side rooms all along the temple. The height of each was five cubits, and they were attached to the temple by beams of cedar. NKJV 11 Then the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying: NIV 11 The word of the LORD came to Solomon: NKJV 12 "Concerning this temple which you are building, if you walk in My statutes, execute My judgments, keep all My commandments, and walk in them, then I will perform My word with you, which I spoke to your father David. NIV 12 "As for this temple you are building, if you follow my decrees, carry out my regulations and keep all my commands and obey them, I will fulfill through you the promise I gave to David your father. NKJV 13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake My people Israel." NIV 13 And I will live among the Israelites and will not abandon my people Israel." NKJV 14 So Solomon built the temple and finished it. NIV 14 So Solomon built the temple and completed it. NKJV 15 And he built the inside walls of the temple with cedar boards; from the floor of the temple to the ceiling he paneled the inside with wood; and he covered the floor of the temple with planks of cypress. NIV 15 He lined its interior walls with cedar boards, paneling them from the floor of the temple to the ceiling, and covered the floor of the temple with planks of pine. NKJV 16 Then he built the twenty-cubit room at the rear of the temple, from floor to ceiling, with cedar boards; he built it inside as the inner sanctuary, as the Most Holy Place. NIV 16 He partitioned off twenty cubits at the rear of the temple with cedar boards from floor to ceiling to form within the temple an inner sanctuary, the Most Holy Place. NKJV 17 And in front of it the temple sanctuary was forty cubits long. NIV 17 The main hall in front of this room was forty cubits long. NKJV 18 The inside of the temple was cedar, carved with ornamental buds and open flowers. All was cedar; there was no stone to be seen. NIV 18 The inside of the temple was cedar, carved with gourds and open flowers. Everything was cedar; no stone was to be seen. NKJV 19 And he prepared the inner sanctuary inside the temple, to set the ark of the covenant of the Lord there. NIV 19 He prepared the inner sanctuary within the temple to set the ark of the covenant of the LORD there. NKJV 20 The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and twenty cubits high. He overlaid it with pure gold, and overlaid the altar of cedar. NIV 20 The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty wide and twenty high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold, and he also overlaid the altar of cedar. NKJV 21 So Solomon overlaid the inside of the temple with pure gold. He stretched gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, and overlaid it with gold. NIV 21 Solomon covered the inside of the temple with pure gold, and he extended gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, which was overlaid with gold. NKJV 22 The whole temple he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the temple; also he overlaid with gold the entire altar that was by the inner sanctuary. NIV 22 So he overlaid the whole interior with gold. He also overlaid with gold the altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary. NKJV 23 Inside the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high. NIV 23 In the inner sanctuary he made a pair of cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high. NKJV 24 One wing of the cherub was five cubits, and the other wing of the cherub five cubits: ten cubits from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other. NIV 24 One wing of the first cherub was five cubits long, and the other wing five cubits--ten cubits from wing tip to wing tip. NKJV 25 And the other cherub was ten cubits; both cherubim were of the same size and shape. NIV 25 The second cherub also measured ten cubits, for the two cherubim were identical in size and shape. NKJV 26 The height of one cherub was ten cubits, and so was the other cherub. NIV 26 The height of each cherub was ten cubits. NKJV 27 Then he set the cherubim inside the inner room; and they stretched out the wings of the cherubim so that the wing of the one touched one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall. And their wings touched each other in the middle of the room. NIV 27 He placed the cherubim inside the innermost room of the temple, with their wings spread out. The wing of one cherub touched one wall, while the wing of the other touched the other wall, and their wings touched each other in the middle of the room. NKJV 28 Also he overlaid the cherubim with gold. NIV 28 He overlaid the cherubim with gold. NKJV 29 Then he carved all the walls of the temple all around, both the inner and outer sanctuaries, with carved figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers. NIV 29 On the walls all around the temple, in both the inner and outer rooms, he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers. NKJV 30 And the floor of the temple he overlaid with gold, both the inner and outer sanctuaries. NIV 30 He also covered the floors of both the inner and outer rooms of the temple with gold. NKJV 31 For the entrance of the inner sanctuary he made doors of olive wood; the lintel and doorposts were one-fifth of the wall. NIV 31 For the entrance of the inner sanctuary he made doors of olive wood with five-sided jambs. NKJV 32 The two doors were of olive wood; and he carved on them figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold; and he spread gold on the cherubim and on the palm trees. NIV 32 And on the two olive wood doors he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid the cherubim and palm trees with beaten gold. NKJV 33 So for the door of the sanctuary he also made doorposts of olive wood, one-fourth of the wall. NIV 33 In the same way he made four-sided jambs of olive wood for the entrance to the main hall. NKJV 34 And the two doors were of cypress wood; two panels comprised one folding door, and two panels comprised the other folding door. NIV 34 He also made two pine doors, each having two leaves that turned in sockets. NKJV 35 Then he carved cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers on them, and overlaid them with gold applied evenly on the carved work. NIV 35 He carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers on them and overlaid them with gold hammered evenly over the carvings. NKJV 36 And he built the inner court with three rows of hewn stone and a row of cedar beams. NIV 36 And he built the inner courtyard of three courses of dressed stone and one course of trimmed cedar beams. NKJV 37 In the fourth year the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid, in the month of Ziv. NIV 37 The foundation of the temple of the LORD was laid in the fourth year, in the month of Ziv. NKJV 38 And in the eleventh year, in the month of Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished in all its details and according to all its plans. So he was seven years in building it. NIV 38 In the eleventh year in the month of Bul, the eighth month, the temple was finished in all its details according to its specifications. He had spent seven years building it.
