1 Chronicles 23

NRS 1 When David was old and full of days, he made his son Solomon king over Israel. NIV 1 When David was old and full of years, he made his son Solomon king over Israel. NRS 24 These were the sons of Levi by their ancestral houses, the heads of families as they were enrolled according to the number of the names of the individuals from twenty years old and upward who were to do the work for the service of the house of the Lord. NIV 24 These were the descendants of Levi by their families--the heads of families as they were registered under their names and counted individually, that is, the workers twenty years old or more who served in the temple of the LORD. NRS 25 For David said, "The Lord, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people; and he resides in Jerusalem forever. NIV 25 For David had said, "Since the LORD, the God of Israel, has granted rest to his people and has come to dwell in Jerusalem forever, NRS 26 And so the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the things for its service"— NIV 26 the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the articles used in its service." NRS 27 for according to the last words of David these were the number of the Levites from twenty years old and upward— NIV 27 According to the last instructions of David, the Levites were counted from those twenty years old or more. NRS 28 "but their duty shall be to assist the descendants of Aaron for the service of the house of the Lord, having the care of the courts and the chambers, the cleansing of all that is holy, and any work for the service of the house of God; NIV 28 The duty of the Levites was to help Aaron's descendants in the service of the temple of the LORD: to be in charge of the courtyards, the side rooms, the purification of all sacred things and the performance of other duties at the house of God. NRS 29 to assist also with the rows of bread, the choice flour for the grain offering, the wafers of unleavened bread, the baked offering, the offering mixed with oil, and all measures of quantity or size. NIV 29 They were in charge of the bread set out on the table, the flour for the grain offerings, the unleavened wafers, the baking and the mixing, and all measurements of quantity and size. NRS 30 And they shall stand every morning, thanking and praising the Lord, and likewise at evening, NIV 30 They were also to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD. They were to do the same in the evening NRS 31 and whenever burnt offerings are offered to the Lord on sabbaths, new moons, and appointed festivals, according to the number required of them, regularly before the Lord. NIV 31 and whenever burnt offerings were presented to the LORD on Sabbaths and at New Moon festivals and at appointed feasts. They were to serve before the LORD regularly in the proper number and in the way prescribed for them. NRS 32 Thus they shall keep charge of the tent of meeting and the sanctuary, and shall attend the descendants of Aaron, their kindred, for the service of the house of the Lord." NIV 32 And so the Levites carried out their responsibilities for the Tent of Meeting, for the Holy Place and, under their brothers the descendants of Aaron, for the service of the temple of the LORD.
