RSV 1 The sons of Judah: Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal. NIV 1 The descendants of Judah: Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur and Shobal. RSV 2 Re-ai'ah the son of Shobal was the father of Jahath, and Jahath was the father of Ahu'mai and Lahad. These were the families of the Zo'rathites. NIV 2 Reaiah son of Shobal was the father of Jahath, and Jahath the father of Ahumai and Lahad. These were the clans of the Zorathites. RSV 3 These were the sons of Etam: Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash; and the name of their sister was Hazzelelpo'ni, NIV 3 These were the sons of Etam: Jezreel, Ishma and Idbash. Their sister was named Hazzelelponi. RSV 4 and Penu'el was the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, the first-born of Eph'rathah, the father of Bethlehem. RSV 9 Jabez was more honorable than his brothers; and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, "Because I bore him in pain." NIV 9 Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, "I gave birth to him in pain." RSV 10 Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, "Oh that thou wouldst bless me and enlarge my border, and that thy hand might be with me, and that thou wouldst keep me from harm so that it might not hurt me!" And God granted what he asked. NIV 10 Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." And God granted his request. RSV 11 Chelub, the brother of Shuhah, was the father of Mehir, who was the father of Eshton. NIV 11 Kelub, Shuhah's brother, was the father of Mehir, who was the father of Eshton. Seraiah was the father of Joab, the father of Ge Harashim. It was called this because its people were craftsmen. RSV 15 The sons of Caleb the son of Jephun'neh: Iru, Elah, and Na'am; and the sons of Elah: Kenaz. NIV 15 The sons of Caleb son of Jephunneh: Iru, Elah and Naam. The son of Elah: Kenaz. RSV 42 And some of them, five hundred men of the Simeonites, went to Mount Se'ir, having as their leaders Pelati'ah, Ne-ari'ah, Rephai'ah, and Uz'ziel, the sons of Ishi; NIV 42 And five hundred of these Simeonites, led by Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi, invaded the hill country of Seir. RSV 43 and they destroyed the remnant of the Amal'ekites that had escaped, and they have dwelt there to this day. NIV 43 They killed the remaining Amalekites who had escaped, and they have lived there to this day.
