1 Corinthians 10:1-14

NLT 1 I don’t want you to forget, dear brothers and sisters, about our ancestors in the wilderness long ago. All of them were guided by a cloud that moved ahead of them, and all of them walked through the sea on dry ground. NIV 1 For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. NLT 2 In the cloud and in the sea, all of them were baptized as followers of Moses. NIV 2 They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. NLT 3 All of them ate the same spiritual food, NIV 3 They all ate the same spiritual food NLT 4 and all of them drank the same spiritual water. For they drank from the spiritual rock that traveled with them, and that rock was Christ. NIV 4 and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. NLT 5 Yet God was not pleased with most of them, and their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. NIV 5 Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered over the desert. NLT 6 These things happened as a warning to us, so that we would not crave evil things as they did, NIV 6 Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. NLT 7 or worship idols as some of them did. As the Scriptures say, “The people celebrated with feasting and drinking, and they indulged in pagan revelry.” NIV 7 Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: "The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in pagan revelry." NLT 8 And we must not engage in sexual immorality as some of them did, causing 23,000 of them to die in one day. NIV 8 We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did--and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. NLT 9 Nor should we put Christ to the test, as some of them did and then died from snakebites. NIV 9 We should not test the Lord, as some of them did--and were killed by snakes. NLT 10 And don’t grumble as some of them did, and then were destroyed by the angel of death. NIV 10 And do not grumble, as some of them did--and were killed by the destroying angel. NLT 11 These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age. NIV 11 These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. NLT 12 If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. NIV 12 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! NLT 13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. NIV 13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. NLT 14 So, my dear friends, flee from the worship of idols. NIV 14 Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.
