1 Corinthians 10:1-22

NKJV 1 Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, NIV 1 For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. NKJV 2 all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, NIV 2 They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. NKJV 3 all ate the same spiritual food, NIV 3 They all ate the same spiritual food NKJV 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. NIV 4 and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. NKJV 5 But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. NIV 5 Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered over the desert. NKJV 6 Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. NIV 6 Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. NKJV 7 And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play." NIV 7 Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: "The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in pagan revelry." NKJV 8 Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell; NIV 8 We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did--and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. NKJV 9 nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents; NIV 9 We should not test the Lord, as some of them did--and were killed by snakes. NKJV 10 nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer. NIV 10 And do not grumble, as some of them did--and were killed by the destroying angel. NKJV 11 Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. NIV 11 These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. NKJV 12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. NIV 12 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! NKJV 13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. NIV 13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. NKJV 14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. NIV 14 Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry. NKJV 15 I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves what I say. NIV 15 I speak to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. NKJV 16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? NIV 16 Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? NKJV 17 For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread. NIV 17 Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf. NKJV 18 Observe Israel after the flesh: Are not those who eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar? NIV 18 Consider the people of Israel: Do not those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar? NKJV 19 What am I saying then? That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything? NIV 19 Do I mean then that a sacrifice offered to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything? NKJV 20 Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. NIV 20 No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. NKJV 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord's table and of the table of demons. NIV 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord's table and the table of demons. NKJV 22 Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He? NIV 22 Are we trying to arouse the Lord's jealousy? Are we stronger than he?
