1 Corinthians 1:18-31

NAS 18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. NIV 18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. NAS 19 For it is written, "I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE." NIV 19 For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate." NAS 20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? NIV 20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? NAS 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. NIV 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. NAS 22 For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; NIV 22 Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, NAS 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, NIV 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, NAS 24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. NIV 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. NAS 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. NIV 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength. NAS 26 For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; NIV 26 Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. NAS 27 but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, NIV 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. NAS 28 and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, NIV 28 He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things--and the things that are not--to nullify the things that are, NAS 29 so that no man may boast before God. NIV 29 so that no one may boast before him. NAS 30 But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, NIV 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God--that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. NAS 31 so that, just as it is written, "LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD ." NIV 31 Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord."
