1 Corinthians 4:8-18

CSB 8 Already you are full! Already you are rich! You have begun to reign as kings without us-and I wish you did reign, so that we also could reign with you! NIV 8 Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich! You have become kings--and that without us! How I wish that you really had become kings so that we might be kings with you! CSB 9 For I think God has displayed us, the apostles, in last place, like men condemned to die: we have become a spectacle to the world and to angels and to men. NIV 9 For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like men condemned to die in the arena. We have been made a spectacle to the whole universe, to angels as well as to men. CSB 10 We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored! NIV 10 We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, we are dishonored! CSB 11 Up to the present hour we are both hungry and thirsty; we are poorly clothed, roughly treated, homeless; NIV 11 To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless. CSB 12 we labor, working with our own hands. When we are reviled, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; NIV 12 We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; CSB 13 when we are slandered, we entreat. We are, even now, like the world's garbage, like the filth of all things. NIV 13 when we are slandered, we answer kindly. Up to this moment we have become the scum of the earth, the refuse of the world. CSB 14 I'm not writing this to shame you, but to warn you as my dear children. NIV 14 I am not writing this to shame you, but to warn you, as my dear children. CSB 15 For you can have 10,000 instructors in Christ, but you can't have many fathers. Now I have fathered you in Christ Jesus through the gospel. NIV 15 Even though you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. CSB 16 Therefore I urge you, be imitators of me. NIV 16 Therefore I urge you to imitate me. CSB 17 This is why I have sent to you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord. He will remind you about my ways in Christ Jesus, just as I teach everywhere in every church. NIV 17 For this reason I am sending to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church. CSB 18 Now some are inflated with pride, as though I were not coming to you. NIV 18 Some of you have become arrogant, as if I were not coming to you.
